Lexington, Ky. - It was a brisk Saturday afternoon at Pat Deacon Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky, as the Transylvania women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Wooster Fighting Scots of Wooster, Ohio by a score of 16-8.
The Pioneers got off to a slow start as the Fighting Scots came out aggressively, scoring 5 goals in the period to Transy's 0. Transylvania goalie Abi Waldron finished the first with an impressive 7 saves, to keep the contest close.
Wooster came out of the second quarter strong, as they scored an early goal at the 14:10 mark making the score 6-0. Just over four minutes later, Transy found their answer with a Charlotte Green tally. After another two goals from Wooster, Transylvania put their second on the board from Lindy Walker nearing the half, making it 8-2. Wooster ended the half in a strong way, finding the back of the net three more times before the midway point, causing Transylvania to go into the break down 11-2.
As the second half started both teams came out of the gates firing. Wooster struck first with an early strike at the 14:07 mark, but Transylvania answered with a goal from Ysa Leon right after the 11 minute mark. Three minutes later the Pioneers netted another goal courtesy of Abbey Peterson to make the score 12-4. After another goal from the Scots at the 3:41 mark, the Pios struck twice with back to back goals coming one minute apart, making the score 13-6 going into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, the Fighting Scots scored the first 2 goals of the period. The Pioneers eventually struck back to get their first of the period at the 5:48 mark with Peterson's second of the day. Two minutes later, Abby Rau scored off of an assist from Vianne Koshoffer making the score 15-8 with 3:33 remaining, but the Scots offense found another shortly after. The game ended with a final score of 16-8, giving Wooster the win.
The Pioneers look ahead to their next game, where they will be hosting Depauw University on Saturday, March 5th at Pat Deacon Stadium, with a 1:00 PM scheduled start.
