Our Pioneers took to the road this weekend to Ohio facing off against the Bluffton Beavers to wrap up January. The Men's team was looking for a good win to get back on track after last games loss and wanted to do so playing as a team. Bluffton winning their last game looked to upset the Pioneers but were in for a rude awakening from the entire Transy team. Transy won today with a total of 67-43.
In the first half Transy got their first points in transition and set the tone for the game early with their first bunch coming off of assists or by following shots to get a rebound and put back. Fundamental and methodical basketball was the aim of the game with Transy really hammering hard defense then good offense. One aspect of the game that Transy dominates Bluffton in would be size, and no better example of that than from Senior Luke Schroeder. While only averaging 10 minutes a game this season Schroeder is the team leader in blocked shots and has always shown great production off the bench. This game showed the ability of Transy's team to substitute effectively and for everyone to do their job, and this was the key for the Aussie's big game. The first half Transy got almost all of their points from the paint and dominated the inside all game while also causing and converting on turnovers, the half ended at 33-20.
In the second half Transylvania was continuing their assault on the inside but showed their strength as a team. With 3 point defense and turnovers killing the Pioneers in their past losses it was great to see these Men focus on protecting the ball as well as the 3 point line. Bluffton shot 14% from deep which was the best the Pioneers have done all season then backed it up by more bench scoring. The Pioneers bench outscored Bluffton's 41-20 and even more impressive would be how every Pioneer got into the scoring column. The Pioneers were able to walk away with the victory today while not having to worry much late in the game.Â
Head Coach Brian Lane had this to say after today's victory:
"This was the total team effort that we have been searching for. We were really focused on five guys playing extremely hard while they were in the game, crashing the offensive glass and running in transition. It is gratifying as a coach to show guys what we need to improve on and then they take it from the video room to the court. Total team effort with every Pio hitting the scoring column."
This is a great step for the Pioneers who are ever inching closer to the end of the regular season as they try and formulate a good plan for what's remaining. The Pioneers next game will be at home, Wednesday February 1st at 7:30 as they take on Franklin in a game that is sure to excite!
