Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Transy Men's Basketball cruises past Bluffton to earn fifth straight win

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Transylvania Men's Basketball defeated Bluffton University 89-76 to improve to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in HCAC play. The Pioneers overcame a slow start to take a 16 point lead into half before leaving Bluffton with an 89-76 victory.

"I was proud of the way our guys responded on a tough road trip coming out of finals." Head Coach Brian Lane said after the win. "It was a very disjointed week from a practice standpoint due to sickness injury, and schedule conflicts." Lane's Pioneers overcame adversity and are now riding a five game win streak heading into this week's annual Don Lane Classic.

Multiple Pioneers reached double figures in the high scoring affair. Colby Napier finished with a season high 18 points to lead all scorers on the afternoon, scoring 9 points in each half. Fresh off his first double-double of the season in the overtime win at Manchester earlier this month, Matthew Teague finished with 15 points after earning his third straight double figure scoring game.

Hunter Penn had a season high afternoon, earning his first double-double of the season and first since last season's win over Oglethorpe. Penn finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds as he controlled the paint.

Coming off the bench, Walker Kyle also had a season high, scoring 10 points in 11 minutes of action.

Transylvania has found its rhythm as of late. Winner of five straight, Transy has outscored opponents by nine points during the win streak, and defeated HCAC preseason No. 2 ranked Manchester in overtime just 2 weeks ago.

"This team has matured into one that has been able to handle distractions and find a way to win." Lane said of his team's performance as of late.

Transylvania improves to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with the win and will face DePauw University this Thursday to open up the Don Lane Classic. Tip off is set for 2 PM.
