#17 Transy Softball takes a Sunday sweep from Mississippi University for Women

Transylvania University Softball took to Hall Field on a beautiful sunny day in Central Kentucky to take on the University of Mississippi for Women Owls for a midday double header.

In Game one, the Pioneers started off red hot with 5 straight hits from their starting lineup, a double by Abby Frazier, triple by Stella Wulker to plate Frazier, Annie Schuck doubled to bring in Wulker, Taylor Senter singled to bring in Schuck. A walk to Carson Murray gave the Pios runners on first and second after Senter stole second base.  Kinsey Smith grounded out to advance both Senter and Murray to allow starting pitcher Carlee Jeter to help her own cause out by driving a sacrifice fly into center to bring in Senter.  Back to back walks by Hadlee Carter and Ry'Ann Tharp loaded bases and turned the batting order over to bring leadoff batter Frazier back to the plate.  Frazier hit a scorching single to plate Murray and Carter.  Wulker tripled for the second time in the inning to bring in the final two runs in the frame for the Pioneers to take a commanding eight to nothing lead.

In the third, the Pioneers scratched three more runs across as Jeter led off with a triple, Frazier singled to bring her in and Wulker again, with her third extra base-hit of the game doubled to bring in Frazier.  Schuck doubled to left to then bring Frazier around to score to make it 11-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Pios added hits by Katie Mewes and a monster home run by pinch hitter Cadee Baker for the final score of 13-0.

Jeter pitched 4 scoreless innings collecting six strikeouts and giving up only 5 hits.  Sophie Moshos came to the circle for the fifth and final inning and collected all outs herself by way of strikeouts.  Jeter and Moshos combined to strand a total of 9 Owl runners.

In Game Two, the Pios struck first again in the bottom of the first inning with a single to start the game by Frazier, Wulker moved her to second on a ground ball to third, then Schuck was walked and Senter laced a single to center field to bring Frazier to the plate.

In the top of the third the Owls scratched one across on back to back hits off of freshman starting pitcher Sophie Moshos. Moshos went four innings allowing only three hits, one earned run, and had three strikeouts.

The Pios took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Emily Hestand pinch hit shot up the middle to bring around Baker who reached on a hot shot to right field to get the rally going.  Hadlee Carter who had walked and gone to third on the Hestand hit, was joined with Katie Mewes who had re-entered for pinch-hitter Hestand and Ry'Ann Tharp who put the ball in play and the Owls defense elected to hold the runners at second and third to load the bases.  Frazier lined out to right field that didn't allow for a run to attempt to score, but Stella Wulker came up big.  Wulker drove a pitch back up the middle for a two run single, scoring Carter and Mewes to give the Pioneers three runs in the frame to make the game 4-1.

Carlee Jeter returned to the circle in the top of the fifth and silenced the Owls bats for a one, two, three inning.  In the bottom of the fifth the Pioneers capitalized on a five run inning to end the game in a 9-1 run rule final.  The highlight of the inning was a game ending, bases-clearing triple by Frazier for the final tally.

These two wins move the Pioneers to 14-7 on the season and will take the week to prepare to start conference play against Anderson University next Sunday at Hall Field, game times are 1 and 3 pm EST.
