Two comeback efforts fell short for the Pioneers today at Wild Health Ballpark.
Game 1:
Luke Patton took the ball in game 1 and dealt five innings on 3 run ball to go along with 8
strikeouts. Apart from a pair of home runs from
Trent Pahl (5 th inning) and
Bryce Dreher (7 th inning) the
offense remained stuck in first gear until the 9 th .
Tremendous relief outings from
Brennan Perry and
Ty Conner allowed the Pioneers to creep
within striking distance heading into the 9 th inning. A one out single by
Austin Taylor and back-to-back
walks to Pahl and Dreher had the bases loaded with one out.
Braden Becker delivered a two-run single
to left field to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
A two-run 11 th inning was the final nail in the Pioneers coffin, as their comeback bid in the 11 th
fell short. Offensively, six Pioneer hitters had hits in the game and
Trent Youngblood ran his hitting
streak up to 11 games.
Game 2:
In game 2, the pitching staff ran six different pitchers out there to try and win the series.
Moderate success by
Jacob Moberly limited the Franklin bats to three runs through 3 2/3 innings.
The rest of the game was a volleying of offensive shots with the Pioneers putting up two in the
7 th and two in the 8 th . Offensive standouts were
Austin Taylor (3-5 with a double) and
Ezra Yi hit his first
collegiate homerun.
