Our Pioneers were at home today playing their last home game of the 2023 regular season as they take on Elmhurst in a season continuing must win. Transy comes into this game 4-10 and 3-2 in conference and Elmhurst at 2-3 in conference. A win today seals a conference tournament appearance in the CCIW for the Pioneers as Elmhurst needed a win to continue their season. The Pioneers have beaten Elmhurst in their last two competitions which bodes in Transy's favor.
Before the game Senior Dalton Hubbs was officially awarded his 100th career goal by Vice President of Athletics, Dr. Holly Sheilley. This provided plenty of motivation for Hubbs as he dominated today's contest.
The first quarter started as planned for the Pioneers, striking first, from none other than Dalton Hubbs. Hubbs not only would score the first, but the first 3 goals for the Pioneers collecting his 11th game with 3 or more in the season, and his 25th straight game with a goal. Casey Fagan and Ryan Geisler would tack on two more to close the quarter scoring for Transy.
In the second quarter Geisler continued his offensive production by assisting Luke Stetter in his only goal of the day. Will Warner would score on a Man Up before the half as Transy would head into the half up, 7-5.
The third quarter featured a goal from 3 Pioneers with Geisler, assisted by AJ Teague. Followed by Warner and capped off by Hubbs's 4th of the day as Transy totaled 5 assists in today's game.
The Pioneers would enter the 4th up 10-6 with the defense having a great day in total, most of which from Ben Marcum who managed to have 4 caused turnovers and 2 ground balls. Jackson Wilson would also sport a strong performance between the pipes having 14 saves allowing Transy to rattle off 6 more goals for the day. Casey Fagan would be responsible for two of these 4th quarter goals giving him a hat trick on the day. Tai Stormont would also go on to score two in this quarter finishing with Dylan Mordhorst and Hubbs totaling today's match 16-12.
After the game head coach Logan Otto had this to say:
"Elmhurst is an unbelievably well coached team. They are one of the best teams in the Midwest. I am so proud of this team. It took a complete team effort in order to get this one. We are excited to make another CCIW tournament and continue our development late in the season."
The Pioneers now look to the postseason as the CCIW tournament will have its semi finals May 4th at 7:30. The Pioneers will be playing away at North Central for a rematch where Transylvania aims to continue their season. For more information on Transylvania men's lacrosse, follow @Transy_Lax on Twitter.
