Game Recap: Baseball |

Pitching and offense shine, Transy Baseball sweeps the series from Mount

An offensive onslaught coupled with great starting pitching performances led the
Pioneers to a sweep of Mount St. Joseph. The three game sweep moved the Pios to 6-2 in
the HCAC.

Game 1:
The Pioneers grabbed the lead early in game 1 of the doubleheader on Saturday.
Jacob Moberly toed the rubber and held Mount St. Joseph scoreless through the first four
frames, which allowed the Pioneers to jump out to a 4-0 lead.

The offense pulled through in the 3 rd inning with a crooked number that gave
Moberly some breathing room. Trent Pahl followed up a Braden Becker fielder's choice
with a single. Bryce Dreher delivered a well-struck single to centerfield to bring Becker
home and an errant cut-off throw brought Trent Pahl around as well. Following an error on
a ground ball off the bat of Henry Mitcham, the Pios found themselves with a 3-0 lead.

Following a single run from the Pioneers offense in the 4 th , Mount St. Joseph created
their only offense of the game on a solo homer in the bottom of the 5 th . The Pioneers
provided insurance runs in the 6 th on a two RBI single off the bat of Walter Munday. More
insurance came in the 8 th from Houston Manning and Walter Munday. Manning singled
home Henry Mitcham and Munday delivered a sac fly to score the pinch runner, Camden
McAtee.

Jacob Moberly was stellar in his starting performance; going 7 1/3 IP. He struck out
5, walked 1 and scattered 4 hits. Josh Furtado threw the final 1 2/3 innings. He struck out 3
of the 7 hitters he faced.

Game 2:

Big numbers were the story of the last game of the series. After trading zeroes for
the first three innings the Pioneers dropped a six spot out in the bottom of the 4 th inning.
Calvin Schubert led the frame off with a walk and eventually found himself standing at 3 rd
with one out. Austin Taylor delivered a double down the left field line; Houston Manning
dropped a single into shallow center field; and Zach Forner worked a walk to load the bases
for Walter Munday who delivered a three run double to left center to vault the Pioneers to a
4-0 lead. Two pitches later, Braden Becker connected on his third home run of the season
to further the lead to 6-0.

The fifth inning saw the Pioneers bring fourteen batters to the plate in a 9 run,
sweep sealing inning. Trent Pahl delivered the knockout blow with a 2 RBI triple down the
right field line.

Luke Patton was tremendous in his five innings of work. He struck out six, walked
none, and scattered four hits. The game also saw the re-emergence of Kaden Hill who
worked a scoreless sixth inning, striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

Coach Getsee had this to say after the games:

"What an awesome effort all around by our team this weekend. Sweeping
conference weekends are hard, sweeping road conference weekends are harder."
