Our Pioneers traveled to Bloomington, IL competing in the CCIW Conference Championship where they faced off against Conference Regular Season Champion, Illinois Wesleyan. The Pioneers come into this game after a methodical all around performance, suffocation North Central 14-10. This competition sadly became the conclusion for a Pioneer team that faced its hardest schedule to date. The level the Pioneers played on throughout this year showed in their impressive conference record as well as the team's dedication to show up each day and get better. This game ended in a Pio defeat 11-14.
The First quarter would start slow for the Pioneers as they would fall behind early until Will Warner would try and resurrect his last game, striking first for the Pioneers. The second goal for the Pioneers would come from Dylan Mordhorst, assisted by Tai Stormont, before the quarter ended 2-6.Â
The Second Quarter would improve for the Pioneers as both teams would go on to score 3 in the 2nd. 5th year Senior LSM, AJ Teague, would not let this game go without putting his fingerprints on it. AJ while handling defensive duties for his time at Transy has always proved bountiful for him on both sides of the ball, and today that was no different collecting 4 caused turnovers and 8 groudballs. The following two goals for Transylvania would come at Teague's hand assisting Casey Fagan, then assisting Ryan Geisler, making the score 4-7. The scoring would be capped for the Pioneers this half after taking advantage of a Man Up, netting the ball after Casey Fagan received an assist from Luke Stetter, ending the half 9-5.Â
The Third Quarter would start with Casey Fagan taking a heat check as he would score unassisted to help the Pios strike first in the half and earn himself another hat trick. Tai Stormont would score the second goal of the half for the Pioneers, assisted by Ryan Geisler. This would close the scoring on quarter, Jackson Wilson would total 13 saves this game.Â
The Fourth Quarter, Alex Madson would score unassisted to try and spark plug this team to make the ultimate comeback but sadly there just wasn't enough time left on the clock. Transy scored the last 3 goals of the game, with Casey earning his 4th of the game after getting an assist from Dylan Mordhorst. Dalton Hubbs was finally able to break free after facing harassment all game to score the final 2 goals and allow him to keep a scoring streak in each game this season. Fagan would assist on one of these goals as Hubbs would extend his streak to a final 28 games in a row with a goal. Â
After the game Head coach Logan Otto had this to say:
"Today didn't go the way we wanted but it certainly has been a season that show improvement. We took huge steps forward. Our seniors have set a high standard for our young returners. They have made this program better by competing on a high level against some of the best in our region. There is no doubt in my mind we can build off this season. I want to say how thankful I am to our players, our coaching staff, the sports medicine team and our parents for supporting us along this journey."Â
