The First HalfÂ
In the first half Transylvania came out to an aggressive Wittenberg team as they tallied the first yellow card of the day. The Pioneers faced six shots this half alongside four corner kicks but repelled the Tigers attack at all points. Transy would probe the Wittenberg defense, applying pressure themselves with five shots and six corner kicks of their own. As none of these would end in a goal, Transy was matching Wittenberg's intensity, totaling thirteen fouls in the half between the two.  Â
The Second Half
In the second half the game became more physical with more fouls, with Transy getting four yellow cards. Both teams still struggled to find the back of the net. Henry Roetker was active this entire game trying to will the Pios for a goal but  neither team could get past the goalkeeper. Late in the half Transy faced plenty of shots but would be deterred by junior Trent Fry who would man the goal for all 90 minutes, having three saves on the night while commanding the defense. Transy would have one more corner attempt to seize the game but ended with the 0-0 draw, making them 1-2-2 on the season.Â
"I can't complain about a clean sheet on the road," Head Coach Ben Federici said. "It wasn't our best game, but credit to Wittenberg for making it tough on us. Their back line played very well. We still have a lot to clean up, as our focus shifts to Saturday."
Up next for the Pioneers is a home game as Otterbein University comes to the Pat Deacon September 16th at 2 PM. This game will be the fifth in program history as Transy looks for their first program win against the Cardinals.
