STAYING HOT
Transylvania is off to their best season in over a decade at 11-3 and 6-1 in the HCAC standings after finishing their last 11 games with a 10-1 record. Transy defeated rival Centre in Danvile to open the regular season before dorpping their net two games. The Pioneers did not lose a game for 42 days, going 9-0 with big wins over Franklin (78-77), Manchester (77-76) and wins over DePauw and Badlwin Wallace to win the Don Lane Classic. 

After suffering their first conference loss of the season to Anderson last Saturday, Transy defeated Hanover 108-102 in double overtime to take back first place. It was the first win against Hanover since the 2021-2022 season.

DON LANE CLASSIC CHAMPS
Transylvania defeated DePauw 88-79 and Baldwin Wallace 87-74 to win the Don Lane Classic. Jaylan Green tied a season high 27 points in the win over DePauw as he led Transy to their third straight win over the Tigers to advance to the Don Lane Classic Championship. Green then broke his previous season high of 27 points and scored 30 in the championship win over Badlwin Wallace. The Pioneers outscored the Yellow Jackets 51-22 in the second half after being down 36-42. 

Colby Napier was named to the All-Tournament Team. Jaylan Green was named tournament MVP. For his performances, Green was named HCAC Player of the Week. 

LAST TIME OUT
Transylvania defeated Hanover 108-102 in double overtime on the road. The Pioneers were up 17 points at halftime (42-25), but the Panthers shot 58% in the second half and outscored Transy 56-39, capping off the comeback with a three point buzzer beater to force OT. Down by 3 with under 10 to go, Colby Napier hit the game tying shot with just 5 seconds left to force double overtime. Transy was 4-5 from the floor and 6-8 on free throws to win the game in double OT. 

Hunter Penn returned to the lineup from injury and scored a season high 25 points while grabbing 13 rebounds for a double-double. Jaylan Green scored 26 points in the win, his 6th game with 25 or more points. Matthew Teague earned his third double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

LOOKING AT THE FIGHTIN' ENGINEERS
Rose-Hulman was voted to finish 5th in the 2023-24 HCAC Preeason Coaches Poll after a 17-11, 12-6 finish last season which resulted in an HCAC Tournament Championship runner-up finish. RHIT currently sits at 5-9 overall and 3-4 in conference action. The Fightin' Engineers are winners of their last two, defeating Defiance 80-56 and Earlham 72-71 for the John Mutchner Cup.

THE LANE WAY
Head Coach Brian Lane '90 enters his 23rd season. Lane first started with the Pioneers in the 1990 season when he was an assistant under his father, the legendary Don Lane. He then coached as an assistant for UNC-Charlotte, South Carolina, North Carolina State, Florida Atlantic, and Morehead State before being named Head Coach of Transylvania in 2001.

Since 2001, Lane has led the Pioneers to six NCAA Tournament appearances in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2020. He was named a Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year Finalist in 2011-2012 and has earned Regional Coach of the Year honors in 2005-2006. 

Lane has been named HCAC Coach of the Year on four separate occasions, earning the honors in 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2012. He has 353 wins as head coach, earning his 350th last season versus Mount St. Joseph (FULL RECAP) and his 361 wins are second most all time, trailing his legendary father Don Lane who has 509 career wins. 
During his playing career at Transylvania (1986-1990), Lane scored 1,286 points which ranks 30th all time in program history.


 TRANSY STATS N' STREAKS

• Transylvania has reached the HCAC postseason tournament in nine straight seasons, last winning the tournament during the 2019-20 season.
• The Pioneers have not recorded a losing season since the 2015-2016 season (the 2020-21 season was shortened due to Covid)
• Transy ranked third in the HCAC last season in scoring, averaging 75.6 points per game. 
• Transy ranks first in the HCAC in scoring and combined rebounding and second in team FG percentage 
• Jaylan Green has reached double figures in every game this season.
• Hunter Penn eanred a double-double in his first game back from injury
