LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania University defended home court on Sunday, defeating DePauw 59-40 at the Clive M. Beck Center.Â
Sadie Wurth opened the offense for the Pioneers with a three point field goal for the first basket of the evening for Transy. Reagan Barrett and
Keaton Hall opened the second quarter with back to back lay ups to extend the Transylvania lead 13-7.
Riley Flinn sank a three pointer to continue a streak of offense for the Pioneers midway through the second.
Sierra Kemelgor scored on a fast break outlet from Flinn to extend the lead to seven.

Makya Grinter's free throw took the Pioneers into the half with a five point advantage.Â
Riley Flinn opened the third period with another three point field goal, followed by another shot from long range from
Sadie Wurth as the Pioneers worked to continue their offense. Wurth would end the third period with five points in the final minute courtesy of two free throws and a late three pointer with only eight seconds remaining in the period. Kemelgor scored from distance in the early moments of the fourth, extending the Transy lead to eleven, 49-38. The Pioneers would close the game at the free throw line, with Wurth scoring from the line for Transy's final five points of the game, securing a 59-40 victory for Transy.Â
The Pioneer defense worked to keep the Tigers to a 25.8% shooting percentage. Transy also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Tigers 44-40.Â
"Unbelievably proud of how we competed on the defensive end tonight," said Head Coach
Hannah Varel. "We made significant leaps from last weekend and will continue to improve over the coming weeks with the collective buy-in we have."
Up next for Transylvania is a trip to St. Louis for a match up with Wisconsin-Lutheran College on Friday, November 22nd at 5 p.m. in the Washington University McWilliams Classic.Â
