LEXINGTON, KY. - On a snowy night at home for their first game of the 2024 season, the Transylvania Women's Lacrosse team faced Alma College for the first time in program history. They started the 2024 season off by winning 12-8, with 5 different Pioneers contributing to the win in the scoring category. First half scoring proved to be crucial in this win, as Transylvania would score a total of 10 goals to put them up 10-3 at the half. They also dominated in draw controls, winning 16 compared to Alma's 8.
Junior TaNya Barbee led the scoring with 4 goals and 1 assist, followed by Diana Bruder with 4 goals, 8 ground balls, 4 caused turnovers and 7 draw controls. Macy Hobbs-Powell added 2 goals of her own. Lula Thompson was the lone scorer in the 4th quarter for the Pioneers. She also had 6 draw controls, 8 ground balls, and 5 caused turnovers. Senior Linley Dawson added a goal of her own, while having 3 draw controls, 3 ground balls, and 4 caused turnovers on the night. Fifth year senior Sophia Sparks earned her first assist of the season, while also picking up 5 ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Jana Carlisle earned her first win in the cage while having 9 saves on the night.
Head Coach Rachael Bragg had this to say after the win, "I'm very proud of how we showed up today and started our season with a good team win."
The Pioneers will stay home for their next contest as they face Rhodes College on Sunday, February 18th, at 12pm.
