Youngblood walks it off, Pioneers sweep weekend in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. - Transy Baseball swept the weekend with their 15-13 thrilling victory over Roanoke College. Trent Youngblood played hero in the win, going to 2-4 with RBI's and the game winning two run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning. He finished the weekend 8-14 with eight hits, eight runs, and three RBI's. He is batting .571.

Another standout offensively from the weekend was Henry Mitcham. He was 9-14 with four doubles, nine RBI's, and a home run and hit .643 for the weekend.

After giving up three runs in the firsts Transy scored six runs in the second inning. Trent Pahl hit his first home run of the season, a two run shot to give Transy a 4-3 lead in the second.

Roanoke had a big fifth inning. They scored seven runs on five hits, and had a three run home run that gave the Maroons a two run lead (9-11). The Pioneers got a run back in the bottom half of the inning and two innings later the Pioneers took a one run lead. Henry Mitcham started things with a solo run home run to tie the game, then Transy took the lead with a two run triple by Bryce Dreher that scored Caleb Bowers and Austin Taylor.

Walks haunted Transy in the eighth inning as the Maroons tied the game on back to back bases loaded walks with two outs.

With the game tied at 13-13 in the bottom of the ninth, the Pioneers had a chance to avoid extras but were set down in order. However, after a one-two-three top of the tenth, Calvin Schubert walked with two outs to bring Trent Youngblood to the plate who would hit a walk-off home run to win the game.

Matthew Armstrong picked up the win after going 2.1 innings and giving up no runs while striking out three batters. He earned the save yesterday.

Youngblood broke the program's all time walks record with his 75th career walk. He tied the record yesterday at 72, and was walked three times today.

Transylvania starts the season 3-0 for the first time since 2007.

Up next: Transylvania takes on DePauw next weekend in their home opener.
