Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse battles with Sewanee

LEXINGTON, KY. - The Transylvania Women's lacrosse team faced the Sewanee Tigers this afternoon for their third game of the season. Both teams showed offensive power, but the result would be a tough battle that ended in a 17-11 loss. Transylvania moves to 1-2 on the season. This was the 4th all-time match-up between the two teams. As a team, the Pioneers capitalized on draw controls, winning 18 compared to Sewanee's 13. They also capitalized on free position shots, going 4-7.

Despite a quick start from Sewanee, Transylvania would show a fighting spirit that kept them in the game. Starting the scoring for the Pioneers was junior Charlotte Green. She would finish the game with a total of 4 goals, 1 assist, and 7 draw controls. Junior Lula Thompson would earn her third collegiate hat trick in today's game, scoring 3 goals and winning 6 draw controls. Adding to the scoring was junior Diana Bruder, who scored 2 goals, collected 4 ground balls, and won 5 draw controls on the day. In the third quarter, fifth year senior Sophia Sparks added a goal while freshman Sofie Garrett earned her second assist of the season. Rounding out the scoring for the Pioneers was junior TaNya Barbee, who also added a goal of her own. Both junior Macy Hobbs-Powell and senior Linley Dawson earned their first assists of the season. Goalkeeper Jana Carlisle finished the game with 9 saves.

Head Coach Rachael Bragg had this to say after today's game, "Our team really gelled today as a whole. There were some excellent pieces of the game put together by our players and I'm very proud of them today."

The Pioneers will be away for their next contest, facing rival Centre College in a midweek game on Wednesday, March 6th at 7:00 pm.
