LEXINGTON - Transylvania Baseball won their ninth consecutive game after defeating Centre College 9-4 on Monday evening to earn the season sweep over the Colonels.
Henry Craig moved to 5-0 on the season after a 5 inning, 5 strikeout performance. He allowed just 3 runs on the night.
Henry Mitcham led the red hot Pioneers, going 3-4 at the plate with a team high 3 RBI's. He tripled in the second inning to cap off a 5 run second by the Pioneers.
Bryce Dreher got the Pioneers rolling early with a single to left field that scored
Walter Munday in the second. TU would score their second run of the game on a dropped pop up by the Colonels' third basemen, and would score 3 more runs on Mitcham's bases clearing single.
Centre cut the lead down to 2 runs with a 3 run third inning. Their deficit would be brought up to 3 in the bottom of the half of the inning. In the bottom of the third,
Austin Taylor hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall to make it 6-3 Transy.
The Pioneers added to their lead in the sixth. After
Ezra Yi scored on a wild pitch,
Trent Pahl homered to left field to score himself and
Warren Wilson to extend the lead to 9-3.
The Colonels scored a run in the 7th, but would get no more the final two innings.
Matt Armstrong escaped a bases loaded jam in the ninth to give the Pioneers a big win heading into this weekend's HCAC matchup vs. Franklin College.
The win pushes Transy to 27-6, their best record in over 2 decades. They're now 19-7 vs. Centre dating back to 2007.
