Transy Softball ends season in NCAA Regional

Pioneers fall to Berry College in elimination game 5-0

MONTGOMERY, AL. - The Transylvania Pioneers Softball team's season came to an end on Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 loss to Berry College in the NCAA Regional elimination game.

The Pioneers finish the 2024 season with 35 wins, the most since the 2017 season. They earned their first back-to-back regional appearances since 2017-2019 when they earned back-to-back-to-back regional appearances and came up short in their quest for their first Super Regional appearance since 2017.

After losing a heartbreaker to Maryville 1-0 yesterday, Transy faced Berry College in the regional elimination game. In just the 4th all time meeting between the two teams, Berry would come away victorious after giving the Pioneers their second shutout loss of the season to advance to the regional championship game.

Berry jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second with a 2RBI single, an RBI double, and another RBI single, and would score their 5th run of the game in the 3rd inning on a passed ball.

Carlee Jeter got the start in the circle. She finishes the season with 17 wins, tying a career high. She ends her Transylvania career with 51 wins, which is second best in school history. Jeter was named HCAC Pitcher of the Year this season after dominating all year long. Sophie Moshos came in relief, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings and striking out 5 batters to finish with 181 on the season to come within 2 strikeouts shy of tying the school record for strikeouts in a season.

Katie Mewes and Dakota Burke both had hits in the loss.

The future is bright for Transylvania Softball, who graduated just 4 seniors and returns a stacked lineup for next season. 5 of the top 8 leaders in hits this season for the Pioneers were freshman. Freshman Dakota Burke was the HCAC's Newcomer of the Year and led the team in hits, doubles, and average. The Pioneers had their highest ever ranking in program history this season when they were ranked 9th by the NFCA Coaches Poll in March. The season was highlighted by a 10 game win streak that saw the team finish the regular season with 6 wins to clinch the 1 seed in the HCAC tournament, then go 3-0 in the HCAC tournament and win the first game over regional host Huntingdon College on Thursdy afternoon.

The Pioneers repeated as HCAC Champions this season, and will look to top this season next Spring.
