Pioneers Run Out of Time at Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA - Transylvania University rallied to outscore Rose-Hulman in the second half of a road Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup, but ran out of time in the final seconds, falling to Rose-Hulman 82-79.

Rose-Hulman started the afternoon with a 6-0 run in the opening minutes of the half before Hunter Penn responded, scoring consecutive baskets for the Pioneers. A fastbreak three-pointer from Zach Stahlman gave Transylvania their first lead of the half (10-8) at the 14:52 mark. A basket in the post from Drew Marshall and a three-pointer from Colby Napier exptended the Pioneer lead in the following minutes. Penn would score six consecutive points in a two minute span, followed by another three-point field goal from Napier for a 24-16 lead with less than ten minutes remaining in the half. Rose-Hulman would respond in the final minutes of the half, scoring two three-point field goals in the final three minutes to take a 41-33 lead into the half. 

Ian Reesor's jump shot at the 14:53 mark in the second half would stop an early double digit lead for Rose-Hulman. Transylvania would spark a 6-0 run in a 90 second span with baskets from Hunter Penn and Drew Marshall to cut the lead to one, 57-56 with 08:32 remaining. Colby Napier regained the lead for the Pioneers at 07:40 with a jump shot to pull Transylvania into a 62-61 lead. With 02:14 remaining, Colby Napier would knock down a three-pointer to lead Rose-Hulman 74-73. Both teams would make the most of free throw opportunities and exchanged leads in the final two minutes. With ten seconds remaining, Zach Stahlman pulled the Pioneers to within one with two free-throws, but Rose-Hulman would respond with two free-throws of their own. With eight seconds remaining, the Pioneers would run out of time after a final attempt from Napier in the final seconds to Rose-Hulman, 82-79.
