LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania won their ninth Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) game of the season on Saturday, defeating Rose Hulman 62-39.Â
Rose Hulman started with a quick 6-0 run in the first quarter, but
Sierra Kemelgor scored from three-point range to kick off the action for the Pioneers. Transylvania began to find their offensive stride with less than three minutes remaining in the quarter as
Sadie Wurth scored her first three-pointer of the game to cut the deficit to 10-3. Reagan Barrett and
Emilie Teall scored consecutive baskets to tie the score with less than a minute remaining, however a late basket from Rose Hulman would have the Pioneers trailing 12-10 after the first. Wurth scored another three-pointer to cut the Engineers lead to 14-13, then scored from distance again to give Transylvania their first lead of the afternoon, 16-14. The Pioneers began to build their lead with a lay-up from Barrett and another three from Kemelgor. With three minutes remaining in the second, Wurth scored her third three-pointer of the quarter to give Transylvania a 27-18 lead.Â
Riley Flinn started the second half with a driving lay-up to give the Pioneers a 31-21 advantage. The strong offensive performance would carry over in the third quarter, as Wurth and
Samantha Cornelison would score from three-point territory and Barrett, Kemelgor and
Chloe McKnight would continue to score in the post, Transylvania entered the fourth quarter with a 46-27 lead. Wurth scored on a fast break three-point opportunity to start the fourth quarter, followed by three-pointers from Cornelison and
Aubree Littlejohn.
Grace Bruner's lay-up gave the Pioneers their largest lead, 23, late in the fourth quarter. Transylvania would hold their lead for a 62-39 victory.Â
