CINCINNATI, OHIO - Transylvania had three players score in double figures on Saturday, led by Hunter Barr's 20 points, but Mount Union was able to capture the victory over the Pioneers in the opening night of the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic, 88-66.Â
Drew Marshall scored a three-pointer with 06:13 remaining in the first half that gave the Pioneers a 30-29 lead, but Mount Union would rally back to regain the lead. With under three minutes remaining in the half, JC Walbert connected from three-point range, but it was immediately responded to by Mount Union on the next possession to maintain the advantage. Marshall scored on a jump shot in the final seconds of the half to keep the Pioneers within reach, as they trailed by ten at the break.Â
The Pioneers made a run to start the second half, Hunter Barr scored at the basket to bring the Mount Union lead down to single digits with 16:27 remaining. He was followed up by a lay up from Jaxon Smith moments later, pulling the Pioneers to within six, 56-50. Ian Reesor scored a basket in the paint with nine minutes remaining to put the Pioneer deficit at 68-58, but Mount Union would ultimately extend their lead throughout the remainder of the half, including a pair of late three-pointers, to take the win over Transylvania, 88-66.Â
Transylvania was led by 20 points from Hunter Barr, 17 points and six rebounds from Ian Reesor and 10 points and eight rebounds from Drew Marshall.Â
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday in day two of the Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic, taking on John Carroll at 4:00 p.m.Â
