Transylvania Defeats Wooster In 2025 Don Lane Classic

LEXINGTON, KY-Transylvania defeated Wooster 74-62 at the Clive M. Beck Center for the 2025 Don Lane Classic Championship. The game honored Don Lane, who is the winningest men's basketball coach in the history of Transylvania Athletics. Lane was inducted into the Transylvania Hall of Fame in 2002 shorty after his retirement from his 26-year post as men's basketball head coach. 

Transylvania had three different players score in double figures - Hunter Barr was the leading scorer for the Pioneers with 22 points. Barr was also the leading rebounder with seven rebounds. Dakota Capps led the Pioneers in assists with eight assists. 

The Pioneers were leading the visiting Fighting Scots going into the first timeout of the half with a score of 8-4. The Pioneers increased their lead to 21-11 shortly before the halfway mark of the first half. They maintained their lead over the Fighting Scots 33-20 with less than four minutes left in the first half. At the end of the first half, the score was 41-30 with the Pioneers were leading over the Fighting Scots. Hunter Barr was leading the charge with 14 points while Dakota Capps was distributing the ball effectively as he had six assists in the first half. Transylvania shot 51.9 percent from the floor while shooting 38.5 percent from beyond  the arc in the opening half. 

Transylvania came into the second half with the same mentality still leading with a score of 47-34 going into the first timeout of the half. The Pioneers increased their lead to 55-38 shorty before the halfway mark of the second half. Transylvania held off a late surge from Wooster, scoring several timely baskets in the final five minutes. The Pioneers won 74-62 improving their record to 5-4 on the season.

Transylvania returns to action on Sunday, December 28, 2025 against  Gustavus Adolphus College in the Florida Sunrise Shootout. Their next home game is on Saturday, January 10, 2026 when they face Rose-Hulman. The game starts at 3:00 p.m.
