LEXINGTON, KY - In a close battle at the Clive M. Beck Center against #2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent, #3 Transylvania lost in a close, hard fought battle Wednesday night. After a very tight ending to the first half 26-25, the Pioneers fell 67-60 to Franklin.Â
Senior Colby Napier started the scoring for the Pioneers with a quick two point field goal. The Pioneers would continue to go on a 9-0 run with two fast break dunks and two jumpers being scored by Dakota Capps, Drew Marshall and Ian Reesor. Just before the halfway point in the first half, Marshall's three point field goal would keep Transylvania's lead to nine, 16-7. Franklin would not get their first lead of the game until 2:18 left in the half, 24-23. Both teams scored in the final minute, with the Grizzlies going into the break up one.Â
Hunter Penn's jumper 22 seconds into the second half took back the lead for the Pioneers. After both teams exchanged field goals, Franklin would continue to go on a 14-4 run. The momentum would begin to shift just under the 9 minute mark, where Napier would find himself open in transition making two consecutive fast break layups. Transylvania cut the lead down to six with a Drew Marshall layup in the 8th minute. Both teams continued to fight for the last boost of momentum as the half winded down, with each team finding the basket. Zach Stahlman cut the Grizzlies lead to four with a free throw at the 1:25 mark. Franklin closed out the game on a run and took advantage of their time at the free throw line.

- Hunter Pen led the Pioneers not only in scoring, but also in rebounds with 11; notching another double-double on the year.Â
- Dakota Capps filled his stat line with 7 points, 6 rebounds and leading Transylvania in assists with 6.
Transylvania is looking forward to hosting Mount St. Joseph on Saturday at the Clive M. Beck Center on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3 PM as Transylvania celebrates the contributions to the program with both an Alumni Event, as well as Senior Day.Â
