LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania battled with Centre College on Wednesday at Pat Deacon Stadium. A second half rally from the Colonels overcame an early Transylvania lead, as the Pioneers fell to Centre 17-15.Â
Transylvania found their offense early in the first quarter, scoring two goals in the opening minute. The Pioneers would score a season high eleven goals in the first quarter, led by
Sofie Garrett's four first quarter goals.
Avery Kirkhope,
Charlotte Green and
Diana Bruder would each add two goals in the first quarter,
TaNya Barbee also scored in the first quarter.
Centre would rally with a six goal performance in the second quarter, as Transylvania would lead 11-6 entering the halftime break. Kirkhope, Garrett, Bruder and
Lula Thompson would score for the Pioneers in the third quarter to lead Centre 15-11 at the end of the third quarter, but the Colonels would record a six goal fourth quarter, including two goals in the final six minutes, to take a 17-15 victory.Â
Garrett lead the Pioneers with five goals, followed by
Diana Bruder and
Avery Kirkhope with three goals each.
Charlotte Green added two goals and seven ground balls for Transylvania.
Grace Smilek-Edwards recorded seven saves for the Pioneers in the goal.Â
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, March 8th at DePauw.Â
