Greensboro, N.C. — The Transylvania men's golf team wrapped up play at the Gate City Invitational on Tuesday at Forest Oaks Country Club, moving up a spot on the final day to finish 7th overall at +11 (875) in a championship-caliber field. The event featured 11 of the nation's Top 15 teams in the latest Golf Coaches Association rankings, giving the Pioneers one of their toughest early-season tests.
After sitting at +6 (582) through the first two rounds on Monday, the Pioneers closed with a 293 (+5) to secure their place inside the Top 10.
Senior
Tom Buchert delivered consistency throughout the week, finishing in a tie for 15th at +1 (72–73–72—217) to lead Transylvania individually. Buchert's final-round even-par 72 included 14 pars, anchoring the team on Tuesday.
Freshman
Andy Steed provided the round of the day for the Pioneers, firing a collegiate career low 69 (-3) to surge up the leaderboard and close at +3 (72–78–69—219). Steed's final round featured five birdies, including three on the back nine, giving Transy valuable momentum.
Sophomore
Ty Ruttinger followed at +5 (71–73–77—221), highlighted by his steady play across the opening two rounds that had him inside the Top 20 after Monday's action.
Senior
William Carr added a 74–73–75—222 (+6), while senior
Seth Hickerson posted 74–74–77—225 (+9) for his third straight counted score in the lineup.

The Pioneers' closing stretch showed balance across the lineup, with all five players contributing key rounds over the two-day event. Against one of the deepest fields of the fall season, Transylvania proved its ability to compete with the best in Division III golf.
The Pioneers return to action this weekend in Tunica, Mississippi looking to build on their 7th-place performance in Greensboro.
