TUNICA, MS - The Transylvania men's golf team continued its impressive start to the 2025 season, capturing its second team championship of the fall with a victory at the Rhodes College Invitational at Tunica National Golf Club.
Fresh off breaking into the Golf Coaches Association of America Top 20 poll at No. 17, the Pioneers lived up to their billing, topping the 13-team field with a +10 total (286-293-295—874) to outpace host Rhodes (+22) and Rose-Hulman (+25).
Leading the way was freshman Andy Steed (Wilmington, OH), who delivered a breakout performance in earning medalist honors. Steed opened with a career-best 67 (-5) in the opening round and survived an hour-long weather delay with just one hole to play.
The Pioneers showcased balance behind their freshman standout:
- Tom Buchert: 69-74-78 (+5) — Top 10 finish
- Ty Ruttinger: 74-76-73 (+7) — Eagled his first hole of the final round
- William Carr: 80-70-74 (+8) — Strong bounce back after a tough start
- Seth Hickerson: 76-80-75 (+15) — Rounded out Transylvania's scoring
The Pioneers now turn their attention to one of the premier events in Division III golf, the Golfweek Invitational in Destin, Florida (Oct. 12-14), where they will test themselves against many of the nation's top-ranked teams.
