LOUISVILLE, KY — Transylvania fell to Spalding 11–9 on Wednesday evening at Derby City Field.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning highlighted by an RBI double from Calvin Schubert and an RBI groundout from Chris Hedinger. Transylvania added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to build a 6–3 advantage. Spalding responded with a six-run fifth inning to take control of the game, turning a deficit into a 9–5 lead. The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the seventh to extend the margin.
Transylvania rallied in the eighth inning, scoring three runs behind a two-RBI single from Hedinger and an RBI double from Baxter Tedesco to cut the deficit to 11–9. The Pioneers brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but were unable to complete the comeback. Hedinger led the offense with two hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Seita Shiratori added three hits and an RBI, while Nick Pietromonaco and Calvin Schubert each recorded two hits. Tedesco also added two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, Kemper Dotson took the loss, allowing six runs over two innings. Jayson Ingles, Landen Broaddus and Cole Mischel also saw time in relief. Transylvania moves to 13–8 on the season.
