SEWANEE, TN. – Transylvania opened the second day of the Sewanee Invitational Saturday afternoon with a three-set loss to Lynchburg, falling 26-24, 25-18, 25-16 at Juhan Gymnasium. The Pioneers moved to 1-2 on the season, while Lynchburg improved to 4-0.
The opening set featured a back-and-forth battle between the two sides with 12 ties and seven lead changes. Transylvania recorded 15 kills in the frame, its highest total of the match, before Lynchburg edged the Pioneers 26-24 to take the early advantage.
Lynchburg carried the momentum into the second set, hitting .273 with 14 kills on its way to a 25-18 victory. The Hornets closed out the match in the third with 16 kills and a .289 hitting percentage to secure the 25-16 set victory and the sweep.
Addie Atcher led the Transylvania attack with a match-high-tying 13 kills, hitting .206 on 34 attempts while adding two block assists. Payton Avilez added five kills, while Cecelia Roberts, Olivia Maynard and Peyton Mast each finished with four. Mast hit a team-best .273 among Pioneers with at least 10 attempts. Addison Davis recorded a team-high 12 assists along with 10 digs and two kills, while Erin Thomas added nine assists and four digs. Julia Brown led the Pioneer defense with a match-high 15 digs.
Transylvania finished the match with 33 kills, 31 assists, 48 digs and six block assists. Lynchburg hit .286 for the match behind Kate Hardie's match-high 15 kills, while Cambre Phillips added nine.
Transylvania returns to the court this afternoon to close out the Sewanee Invitational against host Sewanee.
