Josh Stewart enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Transylvania men’s lacrosse team in the 2021 season.

Stewart, a Francis Scott Key (Md.) High School graduate and Messiah College (NCAA D3/ Pa.) alum, has spent 25 years around the game of lacrosse, bringing a breadth of knowledge to the sidelines.

Stewart will serve as the Defensive Coordinator and Goalies Coach for Transy.

Prior to Transylvania, Stewart spent time at both the college and high school levels coaching boys’ lacrosse. For the past three years, Stewart led Henry Clay High School to two state championship appearances, captured one Commonwealth Lacrosse League title, and delivered an overall record of 33-9 in three seasons. His teams at Henry Clay produced six all-state selections and an overall goals-against average of 5.8 goals per contest allowed over the span of three seasons.

Prior to coaching at Henry Clay, Stewart served as the head coach of Asbury University for four years, coaching six All-AAC All-Conference selections and leading the team through both the MCLA and NAIA schedules.

Stewart spent two years at the NCAA Division III level as an assistant coach at Messiah College, his alma mater, where he was also the Defensive Coordinator and Goalie Coach.

In his playing days for Messiah, Stewart was an All-MAC conference goalie in 2010 as a captain, completing the season with a 5.6 GAA (ranking 1st All-Time at Messiah) and a save percentage that ranked second-best in the nation (.689). Stewart led his team to a 21-13 record as a starter as the Falcons advanced to the MAC Conference Tournament in both seasons.

While an assistant coach for Messiah, Stewart’s Falcons went 13-15 in two seasons, including 8-8 in a competitive Commonwealth conference. Additionally, he was charged with running the Falcons' summer camps which brought in nearly 200 kids annually.

Stewart vaulted into coaching after receiving his Master of Arts degree in Collegiate Sports Administration (Higher Education) from Messiah in 2013. He also received his Bachelor of Arts while majoring in Sport Management from Messiah in 2011.

Coach Stewart and his wife, Nicki, reside in nearby Wilmore with their three daughters, Avery, Teagan and Piper.
