LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania's Zach Lange (Florence, Ky.) scored off a free kick in the second half Friday, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 victory over Asbury in the season opener for both men's soccer teams.

Transy is 1-0 on the season while the Eagles are 0-1.

Both teams battled evenly throughout the first half and headed into halftime scoreless.  A foul in the 54th minute allowed senior Zach Lange to score the game-winning goal from a free kick.  The Pioneers were able to hold off the Eagles for the remainder of the half to pick up their first win of the season. 

Asbury took seven shots, six of which were on goal, while the Pioneers had 11 shots, seven on goal.  Transy keeper Kelly Powers had six saves and got the shutout.

Transy faces Chapman (Calif.) Saturday at noon with Centre meeting Asbury in the final game of the showcase at 2 p.m.
