HANOVER, Ind. - Transylvania's
Kyle Smith scored a pair of goals Tuesday, including the game-winner with just over a minute left in the second overtime, as the Pioneers took a 2-1 decision over Hanover in Heartland Conference men's soccer action.
Neither team could manage a score until Hanover grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute. Smith, who has 10 goals on the year to lead the conference, evened the score in the 88th minute when he converted a corner from
Christian King on a header to force overtime.
Neither Transy (8-1-1, 2-0 HCAC) or Hanover (4-5-2, 0-2 HCAC) could score in the first extra period and the game was only 102 seconds from ending in a tie when Smith struck again, this time going in from eight yards out after getting a pass from
Eric Froschauer.
Transy's
Taylor Nossokoff had five saves in goal for the Pioneers, who 22 shots to just nine for the Panthers, including an 11-6 edge in shots on goal.
Transy had nine corners to two for the home team.
The Pioneers will try to maintain their early lead in the HCAC race on Saturday when they host Manchester in a 1 p.m. game at Thomas Field.
