WILMORE, Ky. - Transylvania's men's soccer team needed extra time Wednesday to edge cross-state rival Asbury 2-1 in non-conference play.
The Pioneers improve to 4-1-1 while the Eagles are 3-4.
Asbury scored in the 17th minute to take an early 1-0 lead only to see Transy come back to forge a tie on the first of two goals by
Kyle Smith at the 28:13 mark.
Neither team scored again during regulation. Smith's sixth goal of the year came in the 95th minute of overtime.
Eric Froschauer and
Bryce Burton were credited with assists on the two Smith goals.
Transy keeper
Taylor Nossokoff had two saves as Asbury managed just three shots on goal. The Pioneers had 21 shots, nine on goal. Transy also had a 6-2 edge in corners.
The Pioneers return home to Thomas Field on Saturday, hosting Marietta at 2 p.m.
