Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Transylvania men’s soccer stands tall at home against Mount St. Joseph

Lexington, Ky. – The Transylvania men's soccer team flexed its offensive muscle in a 4-1 victory over the Mount St. Joseph University Lions on Wednesday evening at Pat Deacon Stadium.

The win boosts the Pioneers to 3-6-2 overall and 1-3-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while the loss drops the Lions to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in HCAC contests.

After a tough string of results for the Pioneers, the home team sensed the importance of the game and clinched control of the night from the opening whistle. The Pioneers struck first on the counterattack as Drew Grider soared down the right wing and centered a pass to Henry Roetker, who had a wide-open net and capitalized to make it 1-0 in favor of Transy in the 6th minute.

Transylvania doubled its advantage in the 11th minute as Max Nusbacher dinked a perfect pass over the Lion defense to find Mitchell Crispin, who laced a shot into the back of the net. The Pioneers took their 2-0 lead into halftime with a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Alec Coomes looked to secure the game early in the second half as he played a delightful ball from the defensive half to put Roetker one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Roetker calmly slotted his shot into the goal and the Pioneers surged to a 3-0 lead in the 55th minute.

After a goal for the Lions, Crispin sealed the game with his second goal of the night as a result of Roetker's second assist to complete the scoring.

The Pioneers remain at home for their next fixture against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Fightin' Engineers on Saturday, October 16th. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM at Pat Deacon Stadium.
