Transylvania men's soccer doused by Rose-Hulman on the road

Terre Haute, Ind. – The Transylvania men's soccer team dropped its first match of the season in a 3-0 defeat to the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers on Saturday evening at Rose-Hulman Soccer Field.

Transylvania fell to 3-1 on the 2020-21 campaign while the Engineers improved to 4-0.

Rose-Hulman took the lead early as Takezo Kelly struck a free kick from 18 yards past Gino Arena to take a 1-0 lead in the third minute.

Kelly found the back of the net for a second time for the Engineers in the 28th minute to double the Rose-Hulman lead to 2-0.

In the 45th minute, Arena recorded his second save of the afternoon off of a Kelly header as the half ended.

The Pioneers and Fightin' Engineers' offense stalled for most of the second half as the Pioneers labored for quality scoring opportunities. Jacob Dirienzo tacked on a goal 25 minutes into the second half for the final score of the afternoon.
Arena recorded five saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Pioneers look to bounce back in a matchup against the Mount St. Joseph University Lions. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, March 17 in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Mount Sports Complex. First touch is set at 7:00 p.m.
