Bluffton, Ohio - A second-half scoring burst propelled the Transylvania men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over the Bluffton University Beavers at the Sears Complex on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Pioneers' record improves to 5-1 while the Beavers fall to 1-4-1 on the season.
Bluffton held the Pioneers at bay throughout the first half. Despite outshooting the Beavers 10-2 in the half, the Pioneers could not capitalize and trailed Bluffton 1-0 at the halftime break.
Early in the second half, the Pioneers found the equalizer via the foot of Jak Birdsong, whose goal leveled the score at 1-1.
The Pioneers took the lead for good in the 75th minute as Devin Craig sent a pass into the box that Max Nusbacher blasted into the back of the net to put Transylvania ahead 2-1.
Moments later, Mitchell Crispin provided an assist on Nusbacher's second goal of the day to extend the Transylvania lead to 3-1.
With the result no longer in question, Crispin drove the ball down the far sideline towards Bluffton's goal before sending a strike past the Beaver goalkeeper to push the final tally to 4-1 in favor of Transylvania.
The Pioneers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 24, when they travel to Richmond, Indiana, for a matchup against the Earlham College Quakers. First touch between the Pioneers and Quakers is set for 3:30 p.m. at Matlack-Messer Soccer Stadium.
