Hanover, Ind. - The Transylvania men's basketball team pulled out a crucial win at Hanover College with a final score of 86-81. The Pioneers improved their record to 14-8, winning their last three contests.
Senior Zach Larimore and freshman Hunter Penn led the way, each contributing 21 points and shooting a scorching combined 16 for 23 from the field. The bench contributed with 27 total points. Freshman guard Matthew Teague also found a groove as he set a new career-high with 15 points, shooting 7-8 from the field. Teague also snagged 6 rebounds.Â
Transy shot a staggering 70% from the field in the first half to give them a 7 point lead at the midway point. Both teams exchanged runs in the second half keeping things tight in a back and forth battle. With Larimore leading the charge, the Pioneers went on a key 9-0 run with 6 minutes left that turned the tide their way.Â
Hanover closed the gap in a close finish, trailing by as few as 5 points in the final minutes. However, clutch free-throw shooting by Zach Stahlman as well as Penn sealed the victory Tuesday night.
The Pioneers return home to host the Earlham College Quakers on Senior Night this Friday, February 18 at the Beck Center to conclude the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
