Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Transy Men's Soccer explodes for seven goals in shutout victory over MSJ

LEXINGTON - Transy Men's Soccer exploded for 7 goals in a shutout victory over Mount St. Joseph to improve to 3-6-1 on the season and 2-3 in the HCAC. The Pioneers dominated the entire match, putting up 17 shots on goal and wearing down the Lion defense.

Transys offense had caused 3 Mount St. Joseph goalkeeper changes.

Dylan Barnes got the scoring going just 12 minutes into the match, putting the ball past the keeper off an assist by Nathan White. Transy would tack on three more goals before the end of the half as Gus Dickman scored his 3rd and 4th goals of the season. Dickman's second goal came off a rebound after Reece Heisel tried shooting low off the goalie, causing a rebound right to Dickman's foot for the 2nd goal of the game. Dickman would later score with just 1 minute left in the half to put Transy up 3-0 before Dylan Barnes earned his 2nd goal of the match with just 10 seconds left in the half.

Transy kept the offensive pressure on in the second half, playing patiently and waiting to play through balls. They'd finally capitalize on one when Nick Haskins played the ball to Reece Heisel, who placed the ball between three MSJ defenders to Parker Touma who put it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Jacob Miller also scored his first goal of the season with just 5 minutes left in the match to make it 6-0. Henry Roetker put the final nail in the coffin with a goal with 2 minutes to play to give Transy the 7-0 win.

Nolan "Rex" Yantz earned the shutout for Transy.

The win is the largest margin of victory since September 21st, 2019 when the Pioneers defeated Midway 8-0. It's also the most goals scored by Transy in the series history vs Mount St. Joseph. The shutout is the 5th of the season by the Pioneer goalkeepers.

The Pioneers have dominated their last two matches, outscoring their opponents 11-0. With just four matches remaining in the regular season Transy is rolling at the right time.

"Our guys have been playing well all year and have not had some things go our way in the final third," Head Coach Ben Federici said. "It's nice to see us finishing our chances and gaining confidence. I expect us to continue." Transy has matches versus Rose Hulman, at Earlham College and Defiance College, and versus Franklin to end the regular season.

Federici gave praise to Dylan Barnes and Gus Dickman after the two combined for four of the seven goals tonight.

"Barnes has been robbed a couple times this year with great plays from our opponents, so he deserved the goals he got tonight. It was also great to see Gus take his chance from distance with such confidence. It's something we've seen in training this year, so I wasn't surprised, but it was a heck of a strike."

The Pioneers continue their four game home-stand this Saturday at 3:30 versus Rose Hulman. Transy is looking for their first win vs the Fightin' Engineers since 2017.
