Game Recap: Softball |

Transy Softball goes 2-2 against ranked competition in Virginia, defeats #8 Millikin

In Virginia Beach, VA, Transy Softball went 2-2 on a big weekend against top competition with Millikin, Berry, Pfeiffer, and Virginia Wesleyan. They defeated #8 Millikan 8-6 in an impressive team effort.

Senior Abby Frazier led the Pioneers going 2-3 with a walk, three RBI and three runs scored. Junior Stella Wulker went 3-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Senior Annie Shuck also added her own 2-2, two walks, and two RBI. Junior Carlee Jeter earned her fifth win of the year, striking out three.

"Great comeback win in game one versus a very good regional team," said Coach Hendrickson. "We competed hard today. We are getting close to being the team we want to be."

In game two Saturday, they faced #5 Berry coming up just short in the bottom of the seventh falling by just one run. They started off strong with a four-run first inning starting with their first run off a Taylor Setner RBI single to score Abby Frazier. Senter would score on an RBI single by Emily Hestand. Hadlee Carter and Ry'Ann Tharp added their own RBIs, scoring Wulker and Murray to give Transy the 4-1 lead.

After a battle by Berry, senior Annie Shuck added one more RBI in the bottom of the seventh to score Senter on a center field single, but their comeback came up just one short in the 6-5 final.

On Sunday, the Pioneers bounced back against Pfeiffer, winning 2-1 over the Falcons. Junior Carlee Jeter won her sixth game of the year (). Transy put up the first run of the game in the third inning with Wulker's RBI double to score Frazier. The Pioneer defense only allowed one run from the Falcons in the fifth, but came back in the sixth to earn the winning run. Hadlee Carter's single up the middle scored Senter and allowed Jeter and the field to secure the win. Jeter recorded six strikeouts in 27 at-bats.

For their final game of the weekend, the Pioneers faced the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins. Down three in the sixth, they battled back as Abby Frazier earned the RBI to score Carson Murray, making it 1-3. In the seventh, Hadlee put the ball in play to score Shuck, but the comeback stopped short of the 2-5 final.

"We have to put all our chips in and give it our all for 7 innings. If we can do this, I think we will be tough to beat," said Hendrickson.

The Pioneers will travel to Randolph-Macon College to face the Yellow Jackets in a doubleheader on Tuesday before returning home for the Pioneer Classic next weekend in Elizabethtown, KY.
