To round out an extremely competitive trip to Virginia, the Pioneers stopped at #10 Randolph-Macon for a double-header today. #13 Transy Softball battled it out for two games but came up short 1-3 and 1-6.
In game one, it was a defensive battle through five complete innings, the Pioneers causing seven stranded Yellow Jackets while Carlee Jeter struck out three. In the top of the sixth, sophomore Ry'Ann Tharp sent a homerun over the centerfield fence to put the Pioneers on the board first and take the 1-0 lead. Stella Wulker and Carlee Jeter also added hits going 1-3 in the game. Unfortunately in the bottom of the seventh, the Yellow Jackets were able to string together a couple of hits to result in the 1-3 final.
In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored early in the bottom of the first, but the Pioneers answered in the top of the second with their own run with an RBI from Hadlee Carter to score Annie Shuck. Jordan Fico, Ry'ann Tharp, Stella Wulker, Carson Murray, and Hadlee Carter also added hits throughout the game, giving the Pioneers opportunities, but were unable to string together enough to produce more runs. Freshman Sophie Moshos was able to strike out four in her outing, but a few clustered hits in the fourth gave the Yellow Jackets the advantage for the 1-6 final score.
Up next, the Pioneers will host the Pioneer Classic, with 12 teams from across the country making their way to Elizabethtown to face good competition for three days. View more information here: https://transysports.com/sports/2022/2/19/pioneer-classic%20softball%202023.aspx.
