Tiffin, OH- The Transylvania Men's Soccer team was back in action this weekend as they traveled to Ohio for the first match in program history against Heidelberg. Transy (0-2-1) came into this game after tying Maryville in their previous game. Heidelberg (1-2) came into the game following a loss to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) member, Bluffton.
The First Half
The Pioneers would make up all of the effective offense for the day, with 15 shots in the first half and connecting on three of them, pressuring the Heidelberg through overwhelming offense. The first goal of the contest was scored by sophomore Markieus Hill, his first goal of the season and of his collegiate career. The second goal for the Pios came off the foot of Nathan White, scoring his first collegiate goal after coming off the bench his first collegiate goal. White has come into this year with a different level of confidence as he would not be denied, serving his team with continued offensive support scoring twice in the half. He would strike again for his second of the game jst over 36 minutes into the game, giving the Pioneers the 3-0 lead heading into the half. Â
The Second Half
Transylvania never changed course, taking the game into cruise control as Head Coach Ben Federici made sure to diversify his lineup. The Pioneers would tack on 9 more shots, adding all 5 corner kicks in the 2nd half. The Pioneers would score their 4th goal in the '61st minute by first year Reece Heisel, the first of his career. Nathan White then scored his third goal of the game to earn the hat-trick, setting a career high for goals in a game. This would all happen as a clean sheet is reported by Nolan Yantz who tallied 4 saves on the day. Transy defeated the Student Princes 5-0.  Â
"I'm really happy for the guys, they've worked hard all year and it's great to see them get a quality result like this," Federici said. "We will enjoy it tonight, then it's right back to work again. The process doesn't change."
Up next for the Pioneers is another road matchup, this time at Wittenberg University on Tuesday, September 12th at 7:30PM in Springfield OH. This will be the fourth matchup between the Tigers and the Pioneers.
