LEXINGTON - The Transylvania Men's Soccer team (1-3-2) were back in action in their final home game before starting conference play, facing Asbury University (3-3-2) Tuesday night.Â
The First Half
In the first half Transylvania started the game with an aggressive stance looking to push the ball forward getting two open looks from inside 10 yards. First year Nick Haskins applied the pressure setting up both of the Pioneers opening shots. This half would continue to be another physical competition but the Pioneers would outshoot Asbury 7-1. Sophomore Nolan Yantz made his 3rd start in goal tonight stepping into the rotation coach Federici seems comfortable interchanging. This half would go on to remain scoreless 0-0.
The Second Half
In the second half it was much of the same for the Pioneers as they would continue the dominant possession of the ball. Transy, owning most of the opportunities, spread out thedefense as the team relaxed, reminiscent of previous games where teams took advantage of this relaxed nature. This however was met by swift substitutions to keep the Pioneer attack sustained, repelling each attempt posed by Asbury. Nathan White was able to come off the bench to try and push the Pioneers to score before time ran out, frantically the Pioneers got into scoring positions but couldn't seal the deal. This game would end in a tie 0-0. It is the third tie of the season for Transy.
"I felt good about our mental approach tonight," Coach Ben Federici said. "We still need to clean things up, but if we show up like this every day we will be okay. Credit to Asbury who played well and made some good adjustments at the half." Â
Up next for the Pioneers is a road trip to Bluffton University Wednesday September 27th in Bluffton, OH at 3:30 PM for the start of conference play.. This will be the first of a two game away trip as they stay on the road, playing Manchester University Saturday September 30th.Â
