Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Tie Maryville in Home Opener

LEXINGTON - Transylvania Men's soccer played their first home game of the 2023 season Thursday against the Maryville. It was the first meeting between the two programs and the first home match of the season for Transy.

First Half

In the first half the Pioneers started with the right mentality of pressuring the Scots, wanting to assert the offensive dominance leading in attempted shots this half, with six. Transylvania would start the game scoring in the 6th minute, scored by first year Gus Dickman which was the first of his collegiate career. The Pioneer were caught out of position twice in the first half, having the only goals against come from own goals after misjudging two balls close to the net. Reece Heisel would tie the game in the 34th minute off an assist by sophomore Markieus Hill. This would be the first career goal for Heisel and cap off the scoring that would come in this competition heading into half 2-2.

Second Half

In the second half the Pioneers and the Scots were gridlocked, equaling attempts when taking into account regular shots and corner kick attempts. Transy and Maryville got more physical this half in an effort to bully and win out of one another, however this would prove fruitless as both defenses had each other's numbers.

"I know the whole team is frustrated with tonight, I am too," Head Coach Ben Federici said.  "I am still confident that we will get things going. We just have to continue to put in the work."

Up next for the Pioneers is another road trip to Heidelberg University in Tiffin, OH on September 9th at 1PM. This game will be the first game between these two programs as Transy is still looking to add to the win column this season.
