LEXINGTON - Transylvania Men's Basketball improved to 12-4 and 7-2 overall after defeating Mount St. Joseph 74-70 behind a team effort which had four Pioneers scoring in double-figures. Transy held off a MSJ 51% shooting performance late and a clutch three pointer by
Colby Napier pushed Transy to their 12th win of the season.
Both
Matthew Teague (13 points, 9 rebounds) and
Hunter Penn (12 points, 9 rebounds) came a rebound short of earning a double-double.
Mount St. Joseph was more accurate on shooting (13-25, 52%) but Transy made more shots (15-35, 42.86%) in the first half to lead by 6 at halftime. Transy brought the lead up to 9 points (52-43) on
Jaylan Green's only 3 pointer of the game, but the Lions worked their way back to tie the game 65-65 with under 5 minutes to play and then sank two free throws a minute later to take their first lead of the half.
Colby Napier his only three pointer of the game with 36 seconds left to put Transy up 73-70. After getting a stop on defense the following possession, Green made a free throw to give the Pioneers a 4 point lead with 9 seconds left to secure the win.
Jaylan Green led the Pioneers with 17 points.
Zach Stahlman had 11 points, with 9 coming from three pointers.
The win keeps Transy at a tie for first with Anderson and Franklin in the HCAC standings heading into their game this Saturday at Defiance (1-14). Transy is winners of their last 8 over the Yellow Jackets.
