Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mullins's hot second half leads Transy to big win over Rose-Hulman

Mullins scores 24 second half points and finishes with career high 26

LEXINGTON - Transylvania Men's Basketball downed Rose-Hulman in an instant classic 76-70 behind a career afternoon for Daniel Mullins. Mullins finished with a career high 26 points, with 24 of those coming in the second half after he scored 22 of the Pioneer's final 26 points.

Transylvania improves to 15-4 overall and 10-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Conference and sits tied at first with Anderson heading into Wednesday's matchup against Hanover before facing Anderson next Saturday.

Both teams traded blows in the first half, but the Fightin' Engineers broke a 31-31 tie with 2:38 left in the half and held on to the lead to go into the half up 37-35. Transy outshot Rose-Hulman in the half but the Fightin' Engineers were 6 of 9 from three point range to have the edge at halftime over Transy.

The second half stayed in Rose Hulman's favor early on as Transy struggled to keep up with the hot shooting from RHIT. Down 10 heading into the media timeout, Brandon Cromwell got the Pioneers going with a layup before Mullins took off, scoring Transy's next 13 points to bring the deficit to 61-63. Simon Smith hit two free throws to tie the game. Mullins would then score the next 7 Pioneers points to give Transy a 70-67 lead. After two Jaxon Smith free throws, Mullins scored the next four to give Transy to 76-70 win and the season split with Rose-Hulman.

"I don't even know what happened." Mullins said. "I just wanted to have a chance to go out there and shoot because it was a rough game at first and our shots weren't going in. I just went out there and hit one, and then they all just went in."

As a team the Pioneers shot 46.7%. Three different Pioneers reached double-figures. Jaylan Green finished with 12 to continue his streak of double-figures in every game this season. Hunter Penn added 10 points and led the team with 7 rebounds in the win.

Head Coach Brian Lane recorded his 366th career win.
