TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA - Despite a gritty second half performance by the shorthanded Pioneers, Rose-Hulman held on for a 3-2 victory over Transy on Saturday.

Cameron Hannah would score first for Rose-Hulman at the 12:02 mark, followed by another goal minutes later from Jacob Pohl at 16:54. Leo Bill would find the first scoring opportunity for Transy after the Pioneers fell behind 0-2 early, however a yellow card would be assessed to Dylan Barnes at 18:35. After a save from Jackson Holt, McKay Wheatley would find two shot opportunities, both deflected by Rose. At 39:45, Transy would be assessed their second yellow card of the afternoon, this time shown to Cole Varela. Varela would respond moments later, scoring the first goal for the Pioneers, assisted by Nathan White, at 41:38, to take a 1-2 deficit into the half.

Early in the second half, Transy would be forced to play down a man, as JT Roden was assessed a red card at 58:11. The Pioneers would find a spark in the situation, battling to out shoot Rose 8-2 in the second half. After another goal from Rose's Cameron Hannah, Transy's Reece Heisel would find the net to cut the lead to 3-2. Transylvania would finish the second half with a relentless offensive pursuit, putting four shots on goal in the final six minutes of the match, including a final shot from Henry Roetker with seconds remaining.

It was a second half that Head Coach Ben Federici was proud of, but wants to extend to a full 90 minutes.

"We played down a man for 32 minutes after a second yellow card was issued. The team worked really hard to still out shoot Rose," Federici said. "I'm not happy with our first 20 minutes. I thought we came out flat and Rose punished us. Credit to their players and a ton of respect for their coaching staff, Coach Helliwell is one of the best. To battle the way we did being down a man was fantastic. It was a gritty performance and we created a few great chances to tie it up late.  It's a second half performance to be proud of. However, in order to win big games we have to play a full 90 minutes."

Up next for Transylvania is another road HCAC matchup in Franklin, Indiana against Franklin College on Wednesday, October 9th at 7 p.m.
