WILMORE, Ky. - The no. 25 ranked Transylvania Softball team took down Asbury in a Saturday doubleheader to improve to 20-7 on the season. Transylvania won game one 6-2 and defeated the Eagles 13-3 in 6 innings in game two.
In game one,
Carlee Jeter became the second pitcher in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference to earn 10 wins this season. She gave up just 1 earned run over 3.2 innings while striking out 6 batters.
Sophie Moshos earned her first save of the season after coming in relief and striking out 6 batters and giving up only 2 hits over 3.1 innings pitched.
Transylvania struck first with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 2nd by
Izzy Story. Asbury tied the game up at 1-1, but the Pioneers responded with a 5 run 3rd inning.
Avery Parsons singled to score
Stella Wulker, then would be brought in on a single by
Carson Murray.
Jordan Fico's RBI single scored Murray, and
Izzy Story would score on an RBI bunt by
Reagan Rouleau. Fico would score the Pioneers' final run of the game, stealing home to make it 6-1 Transy.
Asbury plated a run in the bottom of the 3rd, but would fall to Transy 6-2.
In game two, the Pioneer offense racked up 13 runs on 14 hits in 6 innings to earn their 5th win of the season by mercy rule.Â
Trinity Bridges earned her first win of the season in her first start. The freshman allowed only 2 runs over 4.1 innings while striking out 4 batters.
Carlee Jeter and
Ava Manning finished the game in relief.
Transylvania took an early 2-0 lead, but Asbury put up 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game.
Emily Sizemore scored on a bad throw by the catcher in the second, and the Pioneers would plate 2 runs in the 4th, 4 in the 5th, and 4 in the 6th to score 10 runs in a game for the 6th time this season.
Dakota Burke led Transy with a 4-5 performance, earning 5 RBI's in the win. She had 2 extra base hits.
Carson Murray,
Reagan Rouleau,
Emily Sizemore, and
Katie Mewes all finished with multiple hits in the win.
The game two win secured another 20 win season for the Pioneers. They've won 20 or more games in a season for the 8th time since 2015.
Up next: The Pioneers return to Lexington to face Manchester in conference action. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 PM.
