LEXINGTON, KY - The Transylvania University Pioneers returned to the win column on Wednesday, defeating Midway University 2-1 at Pat Deacon Stadium.

In a hard played first half, the Pioneers would start the match looking for their offense early. In the opening half of the evening, Transy would deliver 14 shot attempts. The Transy defense would help create the scoring opportunities, as the Pioneers would work to maintain possession and limit opportunities for Midway. Despite the shot opportunities early, Transy would not find a goal in the first half, as both teams entered halftime tied at zero.

As the second half began, Transy would continue to be aggressive on the offensive end, and Dylan Barnes would land the first point of the evening at the 57:05 mark to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Midway would have a response, as just over four minutes later, Sedrick Rugwiro would score for the Eagles off an assist from Anwar Perry. For the remainder of the second half, both teams would battle to find an opportunity at the goal to take the lead, but it would be Henry Roetker, assisted by Reece Heisel, at the 85:00 mark that would seal the win for the Pioneers.

Transylvania's Head Coach, Ben Federici, was happy to get the win, but knows his team has areas they can improve on as the season continues.

"It wasn't a great performance by any means, but I am happy that we got the win tonight," said Federici. "We still have plenty of work to do, but it is nice for us to get back to our winning ways."

Up next for Transylvania is a final non-conference match up on Tuesday, September 24th, at Asbury.

The Pioneers will enter HCAC Conference play on Sunday, September 29th, as they host Berea College at Pat Deacon Stadium.
