LEXINGTON, KY - Four Pioneers reached double figure scoring in a 73-58 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory over Hanover on Wednesday at the Clive M. Beck Center.
The Pioneers opened the first half with back to back baskets from
Dakota Capps and
Hunter Penn in the first minute as Transylvania jumped to a quick offensive start.
Hunter Barr's mid-range jumpshot gave the Pioneers an eight point advantage with twelve minutes remaining in the first half.
Zach Stahlman knocked down a three-point field goal moments later, his first basket after returning from injury, to extend the Transylvania lead. Another impact play in the first half came courtesy of
J.C. Walbert, a three-pointer at the 07:22 mark to extend the lead to double figures.
Drew Marshall and
Hunter Penn's baskets in the final minute of the first half gave the Pioneers a twelve point lead at the half.Â
The strong offensive performance continued in the second half with a field goal from
Dakota Capps and back to back three-pointers from
Zach Stahlman extending the Pioneer lead to 18. Another consecutive three-point sequence from
Brandon Rowe and Stahlman put Transylvania up 56-34 with just over twelve minutes remaining. A key play for the Pioneers came down the stretch, as Hanover had trimmed the lead to fourteen,
Colby Napier was fouled on a successful three-pointer to put Transylvania back up 18.
Ian Reesor's lay up in the final minute secured the 73-58 victory for the Pioneers.Â

Brian Lane. "IÂ challenged our upperclassmen to have us ready and they delivered. Our first half defense was stellar and Hanover did a nice job of scoring in the second half. We took their best run and then were able to push the lead back out. It was great to have
Zach Stahlman back on the court after a long recovery from an early season injury. We started one of our bigger lineups of the year and it paid off by getting to the foul line."
Transylvania travels to Terre Haute, Indiana for a match up with Rose-Hulman on Saturday, January 11th at 3 p.m.
