Lexington, KY- Transylvania University welcomes Matthew Mohnacky as its Triathlon Head Coach.
"We are very excited about this new chapter in our triathlon program and believe that Coach Mohnacky will take the team to new heights. His experience and passion for the sport made him the perfect fit to lead our program," said Vice President of Athletics, Dr. Holly Sheilley of the new hire.
Coach Mohnacky comes from Columbus, OH, where he has worked in various roles at The Ohio State University, including The Ohio State University Triathlon Head Club Coach, Mastering Swim Head Coach, and a Health and Fitness Specialist. Additionally, Coach Mohnacky currently serves as a Search and Rescue Operation Specialist in the United States Coast Guard.
As the head club coach, Coach Mohnacky managed the swimming development of 24 collegiate athletes and produced their monthly and annual training sessions while organizing volunteer functions to compete in a 14-race MECTC triathlon season.
Coach Mohnacky's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Sports Industry from The Ohio State University. In addition, he is pursuing a Master of Education in Coaching and Athletic Administration through Ohio University and is a USA Triathlon L2 Endurance Coach.
The Pioneers will be returning three CTCA All-Americans for the 2022-2023 school year, Charlotte Kumler (first-team), Grayson Bray (second-team), and Delaney McPherson (second-team). All three finished in the top 10 at the USA Triathlon National Championships Division III Championship race in the fall of 2021.
When we asked what he looked forward to, Coach Mohnacky said, "I am ready to get out and train with our women's triathlon team! I am excited about joining the Transylvania University family and making the best experience possible for our triathletes. We have the tools and the talent for a championship season!"
