MOUNT BERRY, GA - With a 3-0 victory against Oglethorpe on Saturday, the Transylvania University Pioneers picked up their sixth consecutive win to close out the weekend.Â
After an impressive offensive performance in the weekend's first two matches, the run would continue in set one. After an exchange of small runs to start, Transy would find their moment to build a lead after a kill from
Kayden Holcomb ignited the offense. Transy found themselves leading 19-10 after a kill from
Isabella Myers and an attack error from Oglethorpe. The Pioneers would seize the opportunity to close set one with a 25-12 win.Â
In the second set, the offense would begin with a service ace from
Ava Beltsos, followed by a kill from
Grace Ward moments later. Oglethorpe would not fall behind, finding timely scoring opportunities to remain within range of the Pioneers. Back to back kills from
Cate Scheper would give Transy a 16-10 lead. Leading 19-15 after a small run from Oglethorpe, a strong response of five straight Pioneer points would all but secure the second set victory for Transy. After a kill from Oglethorpe, Transy would win the set 25-16.
In the deciding set Transy would find themsleves in a competitive exchange early on, with each team struggling to build an advantage. An incredible run of three straight kills from Transy'sÂ
Kayden Holcomb would give the Pioneers a 10-7 lead. Moments later, Transy would find another opportunity to extend the lead, featuring a kill from
Addie Atcher, to take a 16-11 lead. Four of the final five Pioneer points would come via kills from
Cate Scheper,
Kayden Holcomb and
Grace Ward. Transy would win the set 25-18, defeating Oglethorpe 3-0 and securing their sixth straight win.Â
Head Coach Amy Barmore was proud of her team's performance in Georgia this weekend.
"Overall, the weekend was amazing," said Barmore. "We were able to put it all together. We are attacking at a high efficiency and working as a team while exuding confidence on the court.
Cate Scheper led us with 10 kills hitting .444 and Izzy and Kayden both put down seven with a high percentage as well. Ava served well bringing in four aces."
Kayden Holcomb was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, joining
Isabella Myers with recognition on the All-Tournament team.Â
Up next for Transy is a return to the Clive M. Beck Center as they host the Transy Invite. Transy will take on Ohio Northern University on Saturday, September 21st, at 1 p.m., followed by Otterbein University at 3 p.m.
