Mel Boyd was more involved in sportswritingthan in activities on the court or playing field during his days atTransylvania. As a student, Boyd was sports editor for both theCrimson and The Rambler for three years. Boyd is an avid runnerwith over 13,500 miles to his credit. He has run in 11 Bluegrass10,000s and five Kentucky Derby minimarathons.

Boyd was a sports writer for the Lexington Herald from 1955-61.Since 1969 he has served as official scorer for Transy's men'sbasketball games and as a member of the T-Club, serving aspresident for six years.
